Fr Williams surrounded by servers and choir on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee High Mass in 1949. This was his last major function in the parish before his retirement.
Two portraits of Fr Williams, vicar from 1911. On the left probably taken soon after his arrival, and on the right at the time of the church's 50th anniversary in 1939
Fr Illtyd Jenkins, vicar from 1949 to 1973
Fr Eric Wastell, vicar from 1974 to 1998
St Gabriel's was the first church in Swansea to have a company of the Church Lads Brigade. It was formed in 1896 and lasted until 1957. In its day it was extremely popular. On Church Parade Sundays the company used to march to church from the old hall on St Helen's Avenue with flags flying and the band playing. In this photograph of 1897 the real guns with which the boys were issued are much in evidence. The bearded figure in the centre of the back row is John Pollock, the Vicar. Next but one to him to his right, also bearded, is the curate, John Simon.
The officers of the St Gabriel's Church Lads Brigade probably taken at about the time the company was formed in 1896. In the back row are Fr Simon (closest to the 'window') and Fr Pollock. The figure between them is probably Mr A Ingrams, the first Captain, with his four lieutenants, M T Jones, A Macdonnell, Jordan and Peacock, in the front row.
The only known photograph, reproduced from a contemporary newspaper, of the original St Augustine's which was on the site of the present 11-15 Alexandra Road.
The second St Augustine's shown in a photograph very soon after its completion. The clerical figure to the right of the door is probably Fr John Simon.
